To blog or not to blog?

As a relatively new member to the society of 'blogging' I am still yet to form any real definite opinions on the subject.
Is social networking taking over as a form of communication?
As a society will we become less able to communicate or feel less confident of going out into the 'real' world and form relationships with people, or is it just a very efficient way of keeping in touch with friends and having a sphere to share thoughts and opinions with?
But then in order for opinions to be shared, they have to be read, I mean who am I actually writing this to?
These are just some of the thoughts that run through my mind whilst considering my views on this subject.
I would love to hear some of yours!

  1. Ha Ha ... Sarah, i often wonder who i am writing to when i blog, but generally, blogging is just a way of releasing steam for everyone to keep up with.. its quite funny too that other networking sites are taking over 'real' communication. I remember i used to actually use my voice to communicate to friends etc... haha. hope your well and i am still to watch the bnp thing... not very excited about it.. i get quite upset. argh!! tc x

  3. Hey Sarah, i kind of know what u mean, about more people that are involved with digitized platform of socialising and communicating.
Me and my mates tried to break down the barrier of the social websites to see what they offer to what they limit you as to the outside world.
When i look at MySpace i think of advertising yourself and songs, or projects.
when i look at face book i see more of people to talk to existing friends, old friends, slowly it is there for new friends, not the kind u add, the kind u talk to.
in a way this is bad, because it devalues your communication in the real world to see things and challenge them first hand.
i see more people using computers this way, restricts them bit by bit, and in the end, they wouldn’t know how to approach people properly. Lack of a formal meeting. Digital social websites strips the way the essence of a person as they are, because computers didn’t make people in there character, but how we grew up doing so many things. Experiences is also important, while one would read up on the internet and see coverage of an event, it is so much better to go there and feel, smell, touch, etc.
